Wow! For the first time it was a little bit hard to keep up today - I mean for the last 30 km. In need for a good night sleep now. Temperature rose considerably, it was finally hot! Almost all the way from Timisoara to Deva (173 km) - at the edge of Transsylvania I got some angry little headwinds to endure - and the second part of the day roads started to roll gently. A combination of heat, winds and ascents too long to jump over and too short to find your pace... cyclers know the deal I guess. Sunscreen factor 30 didn't help neither to defeat the sun.
I travelled Romania quite intensively in the past but I never was that much in the south-west. Honestly, it looked good! Flowers, lavish gardens and orchards, a lot of houses exude an air of decent prosperity.
There is also a lot to say about the roads. Lot of the asphalt is brand new and smooth to ride on - and even smaller country and village back roads are no longer unpaved. On the other side traffic was busy sometimes, especially the stretch between a little bit after Fagas and Ilia. The narrow road is going through some smaller villages, houses are trembling because of the heavy trucks. Sad.
But things are changing - a new highway is in construction - crossing the old road different times. The villages can be relieved. And probably in a few months it will be more scenic again to cycle through them. The new highway will facilitate more traffic so in a couple of years they probably build another highway to unburden the first one. And that... they call Future I guess!
Tomorrow I continue to well known grounds... Transsylvania! Gonna leave early!
